About Me

Veronica Akins is a psychotherapist specializing in individual, couples, and family psychotherapy, and maintains a private practice in Jamaica Plain, MA. She holds over 12 years experience as a clinician, and is a graduate of Smith School for Social Work specializing in psychotherapy.  Currently she works with a broad spectrum of adolescent and adult clients.  Among her areas of expertise are depression, anxiety, trauma, transitional and developmental stress, LGBT issues, and relationship difficulties within families and couples.

Veronica's approach is grounded in psychodynamic, relational, and family systems theory with an interweaving of narrative and cognitive behavior interventions. This means, in essence, that she is a practical, interactive, and solution-focused therapist.  She provides support and practical feedback to help each client to better resolve their current problems and long-standing patterns that interfers with their life satisfaction.  Incorporating a blend of conventional and alternatives approaches, she draws upon a variety of styles and techniques to incorporate what will be most helpful for each client. With sensitivity and compassion, Veronica works with each individual, couple, and family member to build from their strengths to identify and achieve their therapy goals, working to find relief from their distress and build connection with others.   Respectfully empowering each individual to regain their inner confidence and authentic selves are goals she commonly strives to meet with each individual.
